Song

1, 2, 3, 4:
http://www.elyrics.net/read/f/feist-lyrics/1234-lyrics.html
                One Two Three Four
Tell me that you love me more
                Sleepless long nights
That is what my youth was for

Old teenage hopes are alive at your door
Left you with nothing but they want some more

                Oh, you're changing your heart
Oh, You know who you are

Sweetheart bitterheart now I can tell you apart
Cosy and cold, put the horse before the cart

Those teenage hopes who have tears in their eyes
Too scared to own up to one little lie

                Oh, you're changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are

One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, or ten
Money can't buy you back the love that you had then
One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, or ten
Money can't buy you back the love that you had then

                Oh, you're changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are
                Oh, you're changing your heart
Oh, you know who you are
                Oh, who you are

                For the teenage boys
                They're breaking your heart

Israel and Hizbollah Prisoner Swap of July 15, 2008

Israel and Hizbollah completed a prisoner swap on July 15, 2008. Hizbollah handed over the remains of the two Israeli soldiers - capture in 2006. Israel released five Lebanese prisoners (including Samir Kuntar, a murderer who killed five Israelis, including killing a man in front of his four-year-old daughter, and then killing the daughter by crushing her skull) and handed over the remains of 200 terrorists killed in clashes with Israeli forces.

Prior to the prisoner exchange Hizbollah refused to release the status of the captured Israeli soldiers. Israel strongly suspected that the soldiers were dead, but for political and personal reasons refused to declare the soldiers dead. (Political because Israel wanted to make a deal with Hizbollah and it is harder to make a deal for bodies (there is less urgency and room to negotiate when the hostage is dead) than for living people. Personal because the family of the soldiers pressured the government to keep their status as alive so they could get their family member back.)

After receiving the bodies, an Israeli forensics expert said that they were in very poor condition, having not been preserved, and surmised that identification could take a long time.

According to <a href="http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1002425.html" target="_blank">Ha'artz.com</a>, "A Hezbollah security official said DNA tests conducted by the ICRC had verified the identity of the soldiers. The ICRC later denied this claim, saying the group had carried out no such process."

Israel is now testing the bodies to ascertain that they are who Hizbollah claims.

The big question is was it worth it? Did Israel do the right thing by retrieving their comrade or did they encourage terrorism and kidnappings by paying too much?

Here's how I think Israel should have made the deal. If they are alive (as Hizbollah hinted in the days before the deal was struck), I am willing to give up some living prisoners of war. If it turns out that they are not alive, I will only give up dead prisoners of war. I would tell Hizbollah, "We will release Kuntar, but he will be in the same condition as our missing soldiers."

Thursday (July 17) we played against the Mule Team. We clobbered the ball consistently throughout the game and won by 10 runs.
                                                                ---
Tuesday (July 1) we played the Mule team. The Mule team beat us 2 out of 3 times we played, but we felt we were a better team so we were eager to play against them. But the time we finished our half of the first inning we were ahead and we stayed there. Until the top of the last inning when, with two outs, we allowed a hit, five walks and them to take the lead. Fortunately in our half of the inning we scored two runs and won the game.

We took advantage of their spot starter by racking up 9 walks and 19 runs in 5 innings of play. We won the game because of the mercy rule at 19-5.

For this game we got a replacement shortstop (someone I played very well with 2 seasons ago), our left fielder went to left-center (where he claims he can see the ball better), our right-center fielder went to left field, our pitcher went to first base and our short center fielder went to pitcher. The change was dramatic. Almost everything they hit was soft pop ups that our outfielders were able to handle. The new pitcher brought some heat so they struck out 4 or 5 times.
From the first inning we showed that we were going to play our offensive game and we didn't let up until the mercy rule was invoked.

So before the the game began I was getting in some practice by practicing in the outfield. Someone getting batting practice hit a fly ball in my vicinity and I tracked it down while calling for it. Unfortunately one of my own fielders didn't hear me call for it (or ignored me) and ran into my knee. A few minutes later I was able to stand again, but sadly I wasn't able to bend normally for the rest of the day.
Before the game I went over to the manager and requested he move me from leadoff to the bottom of the order because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to run the bases normally. On my first at bat the shortstop couldn't handle my bloop pop up and I had a runner take over once I got to first base. And, indeed, on my second at bat I hit a grounder to the third baseman that I would ordinarily have beat out, but with my limited mobility I was thrown out by 2 steps.
I started the game in my normal position, but after fielding the ball a couple of times (successfully), I worried the opposition would start hitting to me, knowing I had decreased mobility, so I requested a move to catcher. (We had the exact number of players, so I couldn't bench myself without harming the team.) Normally a move to catcher is not made when someone's knee is pained, but while it hurt for me to bend it and unbend it, I was capable of staying in a position without being in pain. So I only had to get into a crouch once per inning - and without the time limit that fielding a "live" ball would impose.
Sadly, the same outfielder who ran into me before the game also made a few silly plays and we were getting killed on our outfield defense. As per our usual we couldn't hit and we lost 13-3 by the mercy rule.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                ---

We played well defensively, but our bats stayed stone cold, and they got a lot of line-drive singles. (With one out and a runner on second, they hit a fly ball to left field. Their runner tried crossing over to third once the ball hit the glove. The throw from the outfield was not in time, but our third baseman sold the play to the umpire and the runner was called out.)

In previous match-ups against them each team scored double digit runs, but this game was played more defensively. We lost 6-5, but we turned a few double plays and made some beautiful defensive plays. At one point they they had a runner at third with only one out. The batter hit the ball to the third baseman (who was playing away from the line). After looking the runner back for a beat, he fired to first. The runner broke for home (because in this league the bases are rather close together and the catchers aren't usually very good, though ours is the best in the league this year). The throws from the third and first basemen were perfect as was the tag applied by the catcher, so a double play was dutifully called.
With two outs and no one on a Red hitter hit a hard grounder in between the shortstop and third. The third basemen dove to his left came up with the ball and fired to first to get the runner. The crowd gasped, the umpire was surprised, and both teams came over to congratulate the defense man, who insisted it was a lucky grab.
Unfortunately the umpire, despite our pointing out multiple times throughout the game, missed their first basemen interfering with the runners so our runner made the last out trying to get to second base.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                ---

This time we were down by 5 going into the final inning. A two run homer got us within 3, but our hopes were dashed and we lost 8-5. Overall our defense was pretty solid, but the outfielders had trouble hitting the cutoff player and they swiped a lot of extra bases off us.

However, our defense was strong so we found ourselves down by 2 going into the bottom of the 7th (last inning). We followed the direction of our manager and we began to make noise on the bench - with our bats. We hit single after single until we tied the game and I came to bat with bases loaded and nobody out. I hit a slow roller to the third baseman which could not be turned into a triple play or an out at home. We won 7-6.

Unfortunately for my team I kept coming up to bat with multiple people on base and I couldn't hit anything. Most of my swings this season have produced line drives, but this game they spelled lazy pop flies.
Thankfully we played a flawless defensive game or it would have been a really sad night. We lost 10-6.

We got off to a quick start by scoring 3 runs, only to give all 3 runs back in the bottom of the inning.
But in the second inning we took the lead for good.
We flirted with "mercy"ing them the entire game, but waited until the top of the final inning to actually break the 10 run lead barrier. Since they were the home team, they got a final time at bat which allowed the game to go its full 7.
I played well with 3 walks and for runs. On my third plate appearance (when I finally saw a ball that I could hit) I hit a shot into left field that the opposing third baseman managed to get his glove on, though he couldn't haul it in. The umpire ruled it an error, so I officially went 0-2 in the game.

We played our best defensive game of the season, but so did they. Everything we hit was caught by their centerfielder. Sadly, we lost 9-6.

We had a team conference to discuss playing against (argueably) the best pitcher in the league. We came out with a game plan and we stuck to it throughout the night.

We rallied to get runners on first and second so our manager could blast a homerun into deep centerfield. That gave us the insurance we needed to win 10-6.

By the top of the fifth we were up 17-6. We needed to get three outs to mercy them and win. They demonstrated why they are the first place team by scoring 10 runs and cutting our lead to one. But rather than get disheartened, we went right back at them and scored four runs in each of the next two innings and won the game 25-17.

Unfortunately, we lost by one run.

We traded runs for a while, before we kicked our defense into high gear and put the game away easily with a final score of 13-6. The umpire was apparently high on weed (according to the catchers who were close enough to smell it on him), but, aside from bad ball and strike calls, still called a good game.

We battled the whole game and finally got our first (and second) 1-2-3 inning on defense. When the dust cleared we found ourselves ahead 11-9.
I went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 runs and (a bases loaded single for) an RBI.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                ---

While we took early leads, we lost 21-14. Yes. That is not a misprint. It was like a football game.
The pitchers were rusty, so there were a lot of walks. The rain came down for more than 80% of the game, so the ball was slippery. The raindrops showed up against the lights and that was distracting to fielders.
I went 1 for 4 with a walk. I reached base every time (2 errors and a fielder's choice) and scored 4 times.

                                                                                                                                                ---

We took advantage of their spot starter by racking up 9 walks and 19 runs in 5 innings of play. We won the game because of the mercy rule at 19-5.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                ---

Season 2 is finally here, so let's not spend time introducing it, let us get straight into the material...

We've got a rodent roundup with high-tech equipment, mta news with lower-tech but trying for a high, NY news that'll make your hair stand on end (or high), some US news that talks about getting high, science news that might just teach us why we get high, and a jerk segment that'll help us help the little guy when we are high and mighty.
Stick around because this a high energy show. Oh... and "Hi mom!"

Democratic Presidential Ticket

THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BELOW ARE JUST THE OPINIONS OF ONE OF OUR CAST MEMBERS AND DOES NOT REFLECT THE VIEW OF THE ENTIRE STAFF<br />
Recently I heard an interview on the Imus in the Morning Show (yes he's back on the radio). Imus asked a Democratic Party operative, I think it was Paul Begala, who would be on the Democratic ticket for president and vice-president.
The operative said he'd not be surprised if it was a Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket. His logical logic was they would be able to work together and it would be encouraged by the party in order to bring the currently divided party together.

This concept is not new.
In 1980, after fellow candidate for the Republican party nomination, George Herbert Walker Bush, called Governor Ronald Wilson Reagan's economic plan "voodoo economics", he was picked to be Reagan's vice-presidential running mate.
In 2004, John Kerry took rival John Edwards as a partner to unseat President George W Bush.

However, I seriously doubt that the two candidates will be running mates in this election cycle.
Let's examine the issue.
I can see why Senator Clinton would agree to take Obama as her vice-president. But I cannot see Hillary Rodham agreeing to be a vice-presidential candidate. I think that she would feel that she'd have a greater impact as the junior senator from New York than as the vice-president.
Obama has the motivation of gaining some very powerful experience if he were tapped to be vice-president of the United States, but I think he understands that there's a great deal of reluctance on the part of Americans to deal with anyone who is involved with the Clinton-Bush regimes (In the debate of Jan. 31, 2008, one of the questions to Hillary was why should we elect another Bush-Clinton family member?). In 4 to 8 years from now, when he would try to run again for the presidency, the stench of working with the Clintons would harm him greater than the benefits of gaining vice-presidential experience. Also, he must have seen that having the clintons backing in future election cycles didn't help Albert Gore or John F Kerry. So, that benefit shouldn't motivate him to join Hillary's ticket.
The final permutation is also unlikely. Obama would have to watch his back at all times if Hillary were his partner. Already a <a target="_blank" href="http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/01/29/smith-kennedy-agents-change-end-being-targets-you-well-know">newscaster</a> has raised the specter of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the worry that Obama might do well to get extra security. Add in all the racial crap that the Clintons have been piling on Obama and the elixir gets more and more poisonous.
Does Barack want that from his "closest ally" 24/7 for the next 4 years? I doubt it.

I think it's much more likely for Edwards to be picked, again, to join the candidate's ticket. Especially if Hillary wins.
I hope Obama chooses someone else, because the way it looks now, I think he'll be getting my vote and I don't want Edwards that close to the presidency.

Season Finale: Episode 32

<img src="http://opinionated.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1016010/0x0_677988.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Season One Finale!

Season One began on December 25, 2006. And while it looked for a while like we would not get the season finished before the second season was set to begin, we finally got it all in the bag!

So listen up as we go though many stories and give our much needed opinions:)

We've got a rodent roundup.
How short is the MTA shortfall? (Who likes short shorts?)
The MTA gets graded again... might be time for them to apply for a new college?
A load of NYC news! Pigeons, murders (Murdering pigeons in the park?), peeping tom laws, gang colors, and airport upgrades all rate on this show.
Find out who else might be using slave labor! (Hint: It's not us)
Does working the night shift put people at increased risk for cancer? Find out what some scientists think in our science news!
Another exclusive installment of "How not to be a Jerk" which will leave you laughing and informed!

Enjoy!

Protests that shall be received and considered include matters of the following types
a. Misinterpretation of a playing rule.
b. Failure of an umpire to apply the correct rule to a given situation.

Sec. 3. PROTESTS INVOLVING JUDGEMENT AND INTERPRETATION OF RULE.
Protests may involve both a matter of judgement and the interpretations of a rule.
An example of a situation of this type follows:
With one out and the runners on second and third bases, the batter flied out. The runner on third tagged up after the catch, the player on second did not. The runner on third crossed the plate before the ball was played at second base
for the third out. The umpire did not allow the run to score. The questions as to whether the runners left their bases before the catch and whether the play at second was made before the player on third crossed the plate, are solely matters of judgement and are not protestable. The failure of the umpire to allow the run to score was a misinterpretation of a playing rule and was a proper subject for protest.

<a href="http://savedarfur.org/content?splash=no" target="_blank">Save Darfur</a>.
